Canberra Creative Writers Bring Writing Meetups continue each fortnight on Tuesday mornings from 9.30 to 12 p.m. This is a supportive space where writers bring writing, read writing and are given feedback which includes appreciation and enjoyment of the piece shared and literary feedback which includes discussion of structure, point of view, character and plot development, use of dialogue and more. Current participants are writing books, prose and poetry from life fiction to science fiction. Canberra Yung Society has invited a presentation of the “The Story Behind the Story” at their April 6th meeting. 8 p.m. at Mary McKillop Centre Archibold Street, Lyneham. I will talk about how the book came to be written, Navajo creation stories, Elroys’ medicine, ceremony and beliefs and share one of Elroys’ blessing ceremonies. I will also address readers and reviewers questions since the book was released, such as, How did a non American, a non native American, a woman, come to be writing this story? What of the politics of culture, race and gender? All welcome.
ACT Heritage Festival 2018 has accepted my proposal to facilitate a life writing workshop. J The theme of the festival this year is My Culture My Place My Story – which is the title of the workshop. It is a full day workshop being offered in Canberra on Saturday 14th, Sunday 22nd and Friday 27th April. Please register directly through valerieyoga@optusnet.com.au. The cost is $50 for the day a % of which will be donated to the Heritage Festival.
